Flight Mode is an events business for young entrepreneurial people who are tired of meeting each other through a screen. We run gatherings where phones stay off and pens come out — so a conversation is just a conversation again.
No LinkedIn small talk, no Instagram trading, no half-listening with a phone in hand. Just a room of people who are actually building things, actually talking, actually there.
We hand out paper and pens instead of QR codes. If you want someone's number, you write it down. If you want to remember an idea, you sketch it. It's a small rule that changes the whole room.
Phones are checked in at the door. We bring paper, pens, and name tags instead — so meeting someone means actually remembering them.
Every guest is doing something — a business, a project, an idea in progress. It's a room built for people who make things, from all over New Zealand.
We keep it rare on purpose. One event to close out exam season, one more mid-year — never so often it loses the occasion.
